![]() If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. (Proverb 24:10 ) Yes the day of adversity! In the book of Job, God has said, "Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward." (Job 5:7). But here we find a sure word of encouragement: strength! About 39 years ago I was encouraging another pastor named Jonathan. He seemed to float in and out of being a strong spiritual, "man of God." As we Fellowship on a regular weekly basis, he seemed to handle his shepherding duties just fine. The Lord Jesus called me away for a season. Upon returning, I attended a gathering of the saints. No sooner was I in the room, when Jonathan came running to me, embraced me and said, "thank God you're back!" He looked as if he was being chased by a mob. I realize he had fainted because of the adversary. Jonathan was going on his own strength and terror was gripping him. Beloved if you take time with God, he will be there in the times you need him most. As Jonathan and I conversed, the Holy Ghost enlighted the above proverb to him. Jesus explained that it was not our strength we live by, but by every word that has proceeded out of the mouth of God. This is where everyone finds their strength in times of adversity. Praise the Lord!
