Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel. (Proverb 27:9) Can you imagine that? Words having the same effect as the sweet savor of perfume. How wonderful the sense of smell is! When offered a fragrance that is agreeable with the recipient, a light sweet smile of pleasure seems to pass over one's countenance. Many times I've observed at the fragrance counter in a department store, customers sampling a sniff of the different perfumes. Not all reactions seem to be favorable. The facial expressions tells it all. Knowing a choice must be made; a continued ongoing investigation eventually reveals a candidate. Can you think of a better friend to take counsel with then our Lord Jesus Christ? Where do we find his sweet counsel so needed to rejoice our heart? The Bible! Father God has said that his word is a lamp to our feet, a light to our eye and it rejoiceth the heart! As we read God's word, the certainty of a sampling of the sweetness desired will arrive in our heart. Hearty council, so settling, that it will become part of our life. How do I know? Just take a look at the faces of God's children and you will see the perfume of heaven! Praise the Lord!
